Call for papers for the Special Issue (Volume 8): How can social studies education answer to the needs of society? [Uploaded on June 1, 2018]

The Journal of Social Studies Education in Asia (JSSEA) aims to make connections among the international fields of social studies education in Asia. JSSEA focuses on general trends and major shifts in curriculum and pedagogy, policy, and practices of students and teachers regarding social studies education in Asian countries. As the impact of globalization is felt at local, national, regional and international levels, so the role of social studies education and citizenship education is gradually changing in each context of Asia. JSSEA stimulates innovation and debate, promotes theoretical development in the field, and encourages reflective practice.

The second special issue of JSSEA will address the relationship between the needs of society and Social Studies Education and its related fields, which includes History and Geography Education, Political Education, Global and International Education, and Citizenship Education. One of the goals of social studies education is to educate ‘good citizens’ who can contribute society. However, the characteristics of ‘good citizens’ that each society pursues have been transformed with social change, and social studies education has been asked to answer to the transformation. How has social studies education answered to the needs of society so far, and how social studies will answer to the new needs of society in the future? Is it always desirable to meet the needs of society? The manuscripts that explore the connection between social studies education and the needs of society would be welcomed to the second special issue of JSSEA.
